Malory Towers and May fairs.
Now I’m incapable of watching TV without also doing something else; so I set myself to some work on the laptop while we powered through a good amount of Malory Towers this morning; making the most of sick day number 2. I was never into Enid Blyton as a kid, which is bizarre; since it’s right up my alley. I love a low-tech mystery, wandering off on random adventures and getting into difficulties! Especially when it’s not loud and shouty or garish.

As we drew toward the end of the nausea after a few hours; and also, I suspect, the end of the series; the girls started discussing the May fair that the girls on TV were setting up. Could we plan a home-ed one, invite a load of other families in the area. Off goes the TV, and thus began a major rearrangement of my living room; which quickly filled with Lottie dolls, (I’ll talk about those later- I LOVE them!) old foam cushions dragged out of the mending pile AGAIN, bits of ribbon and fabric, and on it goes.

We get into the basis of the rite, its evolution and traditions. Made our very own ‘Jack of the Green” Well, Jill, in this case. Complete with handmade face cover by delegation. We didn’t have any green leafy fabric, so we sewed some black and white and then coloured it in with felt tips! Improvisation, delegation and sewing skills. Check!

We made our very own maypole for the Lotties to dance around, a ‘nut’ shy, tightrope, raffle tickets, posters and a handful of little stalls.
Cake cost Maths
When Big came for a little cuddle while I was doing some paperwork, she started asking questions about an app icon on my phone. So as I do- I answered fully. I stopped what I was doing, opened Cake Cost and started talking her through the basic features, and how it uses all the data you put in to break down and work out your costings for various different recipes.

Resource download sheets
This evening I’ve been working my way through a load of EGYPT resource pages nearly ready to upload to the Resources page for you to download; and found these fantastic pyramid templates that the girls instantly made me print out for them to make. Hopefully I’ll have all the pages ready and reformatted soon! Converting all of these resources is a lot more labour-intensive than I expected, and has actually given me a few home-ed IT lessons in itself.
Everything I’ve salvaged either has such poor resolution that it’s actually needing to be redrawn (YAY for neighbours with Procreate!) or are saved as obsolete 90’s program files that are nigh on unconvertable. I’ve never been the most techno-savvy person, I outright avoid it usually; but I’m slowly teaching myself a lot of new skills with this venture. Here is a sneak preview of the Egypt resource in colouring form for you…. HERE. I am constantly upgrading old and uploading new files at the moment, so if something has slipped through the net please let me know so that I can fix it, and send you a free download pack as a thank you!
