Last TrialDay
Today is Easter Monday – and because of the way this holiday worked, we’re supposed to go back to school tomorrow. Well, after we finish the chocolate….
CRASH course learning!

Today I decided to give us a day off, and let everyone properly rest before we set the alarm clocks and hit the ground tomorrow. I pottered downstairs and had a cup of coffee listening to the girls playing Crash Bandicoot in the other room- having comandeered the Teenagers’ Playstation. I heard them happily problem solving, supporting each other and amicably negotiating use of the single working controller while they developed their co-ordination and communication skills. Who says you need books to learn?!
Bitesize fun
Of course, by the time my partner had come down to leave for work they had got bored with that. So while he said goodbye, they told him about all of the Science and English lessons that they had spent the last hour doing, completely off their own backs! On our day off. They’re actually unstoppable. And they’d discovered that BBC Bitesize has some fantastically appealing games, which could have been something to do with it. They particularly enjoyed the Snot Zombies Game from Operation Ouch!
Twinkl peg prize
This also meant that we had reached the end of our peg-count for our trial period, and it’s time to pick a reward. I might have to come up with a different trick for Small, who was decidedly unenthused by the options, but Big had a great time picking out a giant activity mat from the Twinkl website HERE, and will be even more thrilled when it arrives, in the post I’m sure! The peg system for tracking learning worked really well, and short of adulterating the amounts- I don’t think requires any adjustments at all. The kids were so happy to move their pegs each time, got involved with discussing what counts under each lesson heading (with some amount of negotiation attempted on the “Music” front. No, singing a Christmas Carol at me at the last minute does NOT count, Big!)
Now to eat and bathe and set our alarms for school tomorrow……..
